STATEMENT
I am multidisciplinary artist working with single channel video, installation, sound and performance. My work deconstructs the social psyche to some of its most primitive components and presents broken-down forms of language, archaic sounds, emotional experiences, thoughts and psychological processes. My primary interest is in the experience of being embodied and the joys and conflicts of bringing this body in contact with the world. As I work, I bring this interest with me and intertwine it with the atmosphere and history of the place I am working. In this sense, I consider my videos and installations collaborations, not only with the people I meet while I am working, but with the place that I am working. For instance, living in a crowded city and small apartment in New York, many of the works I have made here reflect a sense of claustrophobia and confinement. Although, while working in a large old mill this summer, part of which had been burned down due to arson a few years before, I became occupied with the history of the building and landscape of the town. Paying attention to the currents of the river roaring by in front of my studio, speaking to the local residents about their memories of the fire and finding remains from the original building all became part of my investigation. Filtering this research though my interest in Magic Realism and the life of the internal body, I expanded into the 4,000 sq ft. I was given to exhibit and allowed the pieces of the story to unfold specific to the site.
